Remember Sarajevo!

I was born and grew up in the spirit of the multi-cultural Sarajevo, host of the olympic winter games in year 1984. We were never thought to hate or to make difference between people of different ethnic or religious backgrounds. I was 10 years old as the city was attacked in early spring of the year 1992. This ancient city, historical and cultural center of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was being constantly bombarded for almost 4 years, cut from the rest of the world, in total isolation, surrounded by the serbian forces from the hills and mountains around the city. The severe destruction and countless deaths never broke the spirit of Sarajevo.

The siege of Sarajevo is also known as the longest siege in human history, lasting from april 6th 1992 to february 28th 1996. The siege was ended thanks to the military intervention of NATO, led by the USA.

About 12'000 innocent Sarajevians were killed (inculding 1'500 children) and about 50'000 people were wounded during the siege..

This is not a political video directed against anyone, this a video tribute remembering the darkest times of a city that stood strong for it's values and dignity, about its people who never gave up hope and defended their city and their lives. The bosnian war in general. is one of the darkest chapters of modern european history since the world war 2.

Although, I don't live in my hometown since the end of the war, I do go there from time to time to visit Sarajevo, which I keep in my heart.
